How to Sleep Cool at Night when you Sweat like a Racehorse
Do you get all hot and bothered and sweaty at night? Nothing says gross more than waking up with sweat rolling off like you’ve just ran a 5K.
If you sleep hot, you can be proactive by using sheets for night sweats, and even wearing cooling pajamas. But sometimes no matter what you do, you still get hot and sweat just happens, you know?
I know there’s been nights where I’ve tried to turn down the thermostat to 60, but my husband and son revolted and I was back to just having the ceiling fan at full blast.
I’ve started changing the way I sleep by changing my pajamas, sheets, and even my mattress. It’s easy to learn how to sleep cool if you have the right tools!

Cool Wicking Pajamas are a Must
If you sleep in anything else other than cooling pajamas made for night sweats, (other than maybe the nude!) you’re going to sleep hot. That’s because most pajamas are made out of synthetic or cotton fabric that holds heat and moisture.
Most people believe cotton is a good fabric choice if you sleep hot, but it’s actually the worst, especially if you’re prone to night sweats. Yeah, cotton does breathe, but your sweat won’t evaporate and the fabric will stick to parts where the sun don’t shine.
When it comes to knowing how to sleep cool, those in the know sleep in pajamas made from bamboo or performance fabrics like these.

How to Sleep Cool at Night? With Sheets Designed for Night Sweats of Course!
Your whole body comes into contact with your sheets, so they will either burn you up or keep you cool. It only makes sense to sleep on cool sheets for night sweats.
Sheets designed for night sweats are made from high tech fabric that can actually sense when your body temperature rises and adjusts accordingly. Any moisture gets wicked away from your body that creates an air conditioning effect.
Some people prefer not to sleep on synthetic fabrics, and it’s not a given you have to use them if you have night sweats. Bamboo sheets are a great natural alternative to performance sheets and work nearly as well.

Cooling bed sheets that’s especially designed for night sweats can be pricey, but I’ve found these PeachSkin sheets on Amazon at a price that’s less than everyday sheets!
These Bed Fans for Night Sweats are Genius
These stand up fans are a good choice if you’re looking for a simple, under the sheet bed fan. They’re adjustable in height, and the white one even has a remote so you can turn the speed up or down depending on how hot you happen to be sleeping that night.
I like these because they’re thin enough to fit in between a mattress and a foot board. The vent is very low profile so it won’t get in the way of my feet. I’m a kicker, so that’s a plus. 🙂

I am in love with this bed fan cooling system because it’s dual temperature. That means it’s perfect if you sleep hot but your partner is always cold.
Remember how I told you I’m always hot, but my husband is always cold? Well, when you buy the dual version, you can crank the temperature on your side down to frigid, and your partner can turn the temperature up on his side so he stays warm.
The BedJet is state of the art when it comes to bed fans for night sweats. You control it by an app on your phone. From there you can turn it up or down, and even set a timer. It even has biorhythm sleep cycle settings.

Use a Cooling Mattress Pad for Night Sweats
Sometimes the problem isn’t your sheets or nightclothes, it’s your mattress. Mattresses are a big ticket item most people only buy once every 10 years or so. So until it’s time to buy a new one, using a cooling mattress pad is your best bet to sleep cool.
My old mattress would hold heat like nobody’s business. Even if the room temperature was a comfortable temperature, whatever side of my body I was laying on would be drenched with sweat.
You wouldn’t think a mattress pad would make that much difference, but when it’s made out of temperature regulating fabric it keeps your mattress from holding heat.

How to Sleep Cool by Switching to a Mattress for Night Sweats
Classic Brands 12 Inch Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress
Last year was finally the year for us to buy a new mattress. When I did my research I was surprised to find new cooling mattresses made for those who sleep hot on the market.
These mattresses are made from performance fabrics that are designed to pull body heat away from you. They then diffuse the heat without holding it in the mattress. Some of them are actually made from cooling gel.
I wrote about my experience shopping for and ultimately choosing a cooling mattress in my post, Where to Buy the Best Mattress for Hot Sleepers. I share my short list of the best mattresses that keep hot sleepers cool.
