Why you Should be Using a Himalayan Salt Lamp for Insomnia

Rest Better with Himalayan Salt Lamps

Himalayan Salt Lamp for InsomniaWhat if I told you you could sleep better by using a Himalayan salt lamp for insomnia in your bedroom?

Yeah, I admit putting a salt lamp in your bedroom to help you sleep better might sound a little whacko.

I thought so at first, too. But the more I looked into it, the more it made sense that I should be sleeping with a pink Himalayan salt lamp next to my bed.

That one lamp can purify the air, neutralize electromagnetic radiation, improve your breathing, and so much more. Himalayan salt lamps are the ultimate natural sleep aid because you don’t even have to swallow anything for it to work!

How Do Himalayan Salt Lamps Help Sleep?

Pink Himalayan salt is an effective natural sleep aid. You can take it internally and make a natural sleep potion, but I think using a Himalayan salt lamp for insomnia can be just as, if not more effective than taking it internally.

Here’s just a few ways putting a salt lamp in your bedroom can help you sleep better:

1. Cancel Out Electromagnetic Radiation

If you use a cell phone or have any type of electronics in your home, you are surrounded by positive ions. Scientists can’t say whether or not there’s any long term damage from them, but there is data that shows positive ions can disrupt your sleep patterns.

Have you ever noticed how relaxed you feel after a thunderstorm or when you’re at the beach? That’s because ocean waves and lightening storms generate negative ions naturally. Now you can generate your own negative ions with a Himalayan salt lamp for insomnia.

These negative ions help you breathe easier, decrease your stress levels, and improve your blood and oxygen supply.

2. Purify your Bedroom’s Air

Do you have trouble breathing at night? My husband rarely sleeps through the night because his nose stops up because of his allergies. This is one of the reasons why I want to get a Himalayan salt lamp for our bedroom.

Himalayan salt lamps are kind of like Mother Nature’s air purifiers. They filter out mold, dust, and pet dander. You know, all the yucky things that make you go all snotty.

If allergy problems keep you up at night, I think it’s a good idea to try a Himalayan salt lamp for sleep before buying an expensive air purifier.

3. Tells your Brain it’s Time to Sleep

how I used a himalayan salt lamp for insomniaIf you’re using all of those electronics I mentioned earlier, you’re not only putting off positive ions, but blue light, too.

Pretty much anything that has a screen, fluorescent and LED lighting, emit blue light which contributes to your insomnia.

Are you wide awake when you should be sleepy? Blue light keeps your body from releasing the sleep hormone melatonin.

The soft orange glow of a HPS lamp helps to increase melatonin production naturally because it tells your brain it’s night and time to let the melatonin flow.  In fact, it’s a good idea to expose yourself to the orange light of a Himalayan salt lamp a couple of hours before bedtime.

These also make good nightlights because they don’t negatively affect your sleep pattern when you get up in the middle of the night like regular lights do.

How to Choose a Himalayan Salt Lamp for the Bedroom

The number one thing to consider when buying a Himalayan salt lamp for your bedroom is the size of your room. If you have a natural salt crystal lamp that’s too small for your room, you won’t get the full insomnia busting benefits.

Essentially if your bedroom size is:

  • 10 x 10 square feet, you need a lamp 7 -8 inches tall.
  • 12 x 12 square feet, you need a lamp 8-10 inches tall.
  • 14 x 14 square feet, you need a lamp 9-11 inches tall.

Look for dark colored lamps. Salt lamps come in pink, orange, and even white, and the darkest shades are considered higher quality.

It’s personal preference, but I prefer rough edged lamps instead of smooth ones. Natural shaped lamps have more surface area, which means they may be more effective. That said, if you like the look of crafted Himalayan salt lamps, that’s ok, too. 🙂

Most importantly, be safe and buy a quality lamp! Since you’ll be putting this in your bedroom, it’s imperative you buy a natural crystal salt lamp with a safely attached electrical fixture. Some cheaply made lamps aren’t secured very well to their bases, and some don’t even come with an electrical base. They want you to buy it separately!

Make sure the salt lamp you buy is from Pakistan. Real Himalayan salt is taken from mines in Pakistan. Some cheaper lamps aren’t made from real Himalayan salt, so you won’t get any sleep benefits of the Himalayan sea salt.

Can you Leave a Himalayan Salt Lamp on All Night?

One of the first things I wondering when I got my lamp was if it was okay to let it stay on all night. The last thing I wanted was for it to short out or something.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything that definitively said, yes, you can, or, no, you can’t. Personally, I have kept my on 24/7 since I got mine two years ago.

But if you’re wondering should you sleep with it on, my advice is just go with what you’re comfortable with. If you choose to leave it on, be smart and don’t put it too close to your bed so you don’t knock it over and make sure the cords aren’t frayed.

And if you’re nervous about it, just leave it on up until you crawl into bed so you’ll still get some benefits. Then just use it as a night light.  Turn it on if you get up in the middle of the night so it won’t disrupt your sleep like regular light would.

Curious? Try a Himalayan Salt Lamp for Insomnia

how to use a himalayan salt lamp for sleepTrying a Himalayan salt lamp for insomnia might sound a little out there, but, trust me, I have tried much weirder natural remedies to get some sleep.

But if something as simple as this natural sleep aid can help you sleep better, plus cleanse the air from pathogens and electronic smog and give off a sleep inducing glow, why wouldn’t you want to try it?

Even if you don’t have trouble sleeping, this would be the perfect gift to give to someone who has everything. Everybody loves to sleep, right? Himalayan salt lamps are great gifts to give to people who can’t sleep. (or just love to stay in bed!)

I can’t wait till I get my crystal salt lamp. My husband will be breathing easier, and we’ll both be sleeping better with our HPS salt lamp. 🙂

I never turn it off! I even notice health benefits during the day, so I bought two more to put around my house. I was kind of whatever, there’s no way this thing can be helpful when I first got it, but I’m so glad I did.

Thanks for sharing such an informative article. I also have Himalayan salt lamps in my house. These lamps are just more than awesome. They are not only beautiful but also have healthy and healing benefits for human mind and body as you have mentioned above. They have not only helped me in improving my sleep cycle but also helped me in relieving stress and fatigue. I have bought my lamps from ittefaqco at a very reasonable price and they are of great quality.

It’s so fruitful and well expressive article. Thanks for sharing it. I have experienced its benefit too. You are absolutely right. It really works. I was suffering from insomnia. I got two salt lamps from Saltean. These lamps not only influence my health positively, but also improve my sleeping cycle.

My sister in-law treated me to a spa treatment in Palos Heights, IL last year and it was fantastic!
I’m pluging mine into this morning.

    Thanks, for the great information.
